The possibility of England feeding an all-spin attack in the second Test against India

Former Kiwi batsman and current England coach, Brendon McCullum has stressed his readiness to use an all-spin bowling attack in the remaining matches of the Test series against India. He won the first Test in Chennai during England’s last Test series in India in 2021. However, in the next matches, the pitches started to favor the spin bowlers.

Speaking on a local English radio show, McCullum revealed that if the pitches behave similarly, this time England are ready to use their spin bowlers effectively to deal with the conditions. McCullum also mentioned that Bashir could be considered for the team if we feel the second Test pitch in Vizag will have more spin than Hyderabad.

“He (Bashir) was obviously with us in the camp in Abu Dhabi and he was really impressing with his skills,” he said. They fit into the group. He again has less first-class experience than Tom Hartley but we thought his skills could help us here. McCullum said that Bashir’s timing in Hyderabad was very good. Everyone cheered when he came and he got to see something amazing as our team’s bowlers helped us win the Test match.

McCullum added that Bashir could be considered for the next Test match. The England coach also said that if the pitches continue to rotate like in the first Test as the series progresses, we will not hesitate to play all the spinners or the mix of players we have available. It should be noted that England made a great comeback in Hyderabad last week with a stunning win.

They played on a pitch that favored spin bowling and chose three spinners and only one pacer, Mark Wood, in their team. Even more remarkable, two of their three spinners had played only one Test before. Despite this, they managed to defeat an experienced Indian team
